Doubt: A Parable

By John Patrick Shanley
Director: Ellis Ebell

Sister Aloysius, principal of a Bronx parish school, suspects parish priest Father Flynn of an improper relationship with one of the boys at her school, the only African American pupil. The rigidly conservative nun and progressive young priest are in direct conflict as she takes matters into her own hands. A naive young nun and the boy’s mother provide different perspectives to this gripping story of suspicion that is less about scandal than about questions of moral uncertainty. As each clue is revealed and answered, the audience is left in its own doubt as to the priest’s innocence or guilt.
